Regulations on the Transport of Portable External Batteries (Power Banks)

Dear Travel Agencies,

New guidelines have been established for the transport of portable external batteries (power banks), while existing rules have been reinforced to ensure compliance with current regulations (IATA DGR) and the adoption of more robust internal safety standards:

Guidelines

  • Spare/loose batteries and power banks are prohibited in checked baggage.
  • In the cabin, portable external batteries (power banks) must comply with the following conditions:
    • They must not be recharged during the flight.
    • They may only be used during the cruise phase, and not during taxi, takeoff, or landing.
    • They must not be stored in overhead compartments.
    • They must be placed under the seat or in the seat pocket in front of the passenger.
