Copa Airlines: Update – Baggage Restriction Period Conditions← Back

Update:

  • Due to the high demand for baggage during the peak season, restrictions will be implemented in two phases:
    • Phase 1: From December 1, 2025, to January 12, 2026.
  • Routes with restrictions lifted:
    • Washington (IAD) → and Lima (LIM)
  • Routes with baggage restrictions:
    • Guatemala (GUA), San Salvador (SAL) and Comayagua (XPL) → Washington (IAD)
    • Washington (IAD) → San Salvador (SAL)
    • Nueva York (JFK) → Guayaquil (GYE) and Manta (MEC)
    • San Salvador (SAL) → Los Angeles (LAX)
    • Miami (MIA) → Manta (MEC)
  • Note: All routes included in Phase 1 will remain in effect during Phase 2 as well. 
  • Phase 2: From December 8, 2025, to January 12, 2026
    • Additional routes with restrictions:
      • Nueva York (JFK) and Washington (IAD) → Comayagua (XPL)
      • San Pedro Sula (SAP) → Washington (IAD)
      • Baltimore (BWI) → San Salvador (SAL) and Guayaquil (GYE)
      • Raleigh-Durham (RDU) → Guayaquil (GYE)
  • Cuba baggage restrictions remain permanent and apply to both Phase 1 and Phase 2. 

These baggage restrictions apply only to flights to Cuba. Flights departing from or originating in Cuba are not subject to these restrictions.

Copa Airlines has implemented and will continue to implement baggage embargo conditions. Details by effective date are provided below:
**From any origin to Cuba 




 

PHASE 1: FROM DECEMBER 1, 2025 TO JANUARY 12, 2026

  • From Guatemala (GUA), San Salvador (SAL) and Comayagua (XPL) to Washington (IAD).
  • From Washington (IAD) to San Salvador (SAL).
  • From New York (JFK) to Guayaquil (GYE) and Manta (MEC).
  • From San Salvador (SAL) to Los Angeles (LAX).
  • From Miami (MIA) to Manta (MEC).
  • Important: All routes mentioned in Phase 1 are maintained for Phase 2.

PHASE 2: FROM DECEMBER 8, 2025 TO JANUARY 12, 2026

  • From Guatemala (GUA), San Salvador (SAL) and Comayagua (XPL) to Washington (IAD).

  • From Washington (IAD) to San Salvador (SAL).

  • From New York (JFK) to Guayaquil (GYE) and Manta (MEC).

  • From San Salvador (SAL) to Los Angeles (LAX).

  • From Miami (MIA) to Manta (MEC).

  • From New York (JFK) and Washington (IAD) to Comayagua (XPL).

  • From San Pedro Sula (SAP) to Washington (IAD).

  • From Baltimore (BWI) to San Salvador (SAL) and Guayaquil (GYE).

  • From Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Guayaquil (GYE).

     

    IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Applicable charges will apply according to the Baggage Policy.
  • Boxes, pets in cabin, sporting equipment, and musical instruments may be checked as part of the permitted baggage allowance, provided they comply with the established weight and size limits.
  • Passengers transporting perishable food items must ensure that these are properly packed.

    1. The baggage embargo to Cuba allows up to 2 pieces of 32 kg each for passengers traveling in Business Class.
    2. Regular passengers and PreferMember Silver members traveling in Business Class may carry 2 pieces of up to 32 kg each as part of their baggage allowance. PreferMember Gold, Platinum, Presidential, and Star Alliance Gold members, traveling in Economy or Business Class, may carry up to 3 pieces of 32 kg each as part of their allowance.
